#10 Sgt. Thomas M. Goodman
February 22, 1829 – February 5, 1886
Here lies Sergeant T.M. Goodman, Company C, the 1st Missouri Engineers and the lone survivor of the Centralia Missouri Massacre.
In 1864, Bloody Bill Anderson, a “sometimes” Confederate Captain, attacked the City of Centralia, Missouri, while a group of 24 Union soldiers arrived by train on furlough. He executed all the Union soldiers with the exception of Sergeant Goodman, who eventually escaped and served throughout the Civil War.
His grave is marked with a regulation Union headstone and is surrounded by a low iron fence, the perfect touch for Goodman who was a blacksmith.
