#11 Natale Bacigalupi
January 23, 1861 – September 4, 1962
Natale Bacigalupi was instrumental in establishing an Italian community in Santa Rosa. He assisted in bringing Italian stone masons from Italy and in shipping the basalt rocks that they quarried from the Annadel area to pave San Francisco’s streets. The La Rose Hotel, Depot and Western Hotel were built of such blocks by Italian stone masons. Mr. Bacigalupi lived to 101, dying in 1962.

Berthold “Barney” Henry Hoen
July 6, 1822 – August 7, 1885
Two of Santa Rosa’s founding fathers, Berthold Hoen and Feodor Hahman set up shop in the Carrillo adobe in the early 1850s, then spent years promoting and developing the city. In 1854, Barney Hoen campaigned to bring the county seat to Santa Rosa, and, in 1867, the town was granted incorporation by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. The State of California affirmed the incorporation in 1868. The coming of the railroad in 1870 fortified Santa Rosa’s success, and the population increased tenfold.
