#12 Japanese Plots and County of Sonoma Cemetery
Downhill to the right are the graves of about 36 Japanese immigrants. Although prejudice prohibited the Chinese from being buried in this cemetery, the Japanese were allowed.
Further downhill and beyond the eucalyptus trees, is the County of Sonoma Cemetery. Purchased in 1943, approximately 500 people are buried here. The previous graveyard of about 1500 people on Chanate Road was full. The Chanate Road site had become overgrown but has now been restored.
