#13 Grace Family Plot
The Grace family has been involved in the business community of Sonoma County for over 100 years.
Frank P became Sheriff and Tax Collector of Sonoma County; and brother Joseph T became vice-president of the Bank of Italy and Chairman of the Board of the Bank of America. Together, they owned the Grace Brothers Brewery on W. Third Street (now the site of the Vineyard Creek Hotel.) The brewery’s well and fire-fighting equipment were instrumental in providing help to Santa Rosa after the 1906 quake. During Prohibition, in order to survive, the brothers created an ice-skating rink and served soft drinks and ice cream.
The family gave their name to the Grace Housing Tract. And largely through Joseph Grace’s efforts, the old fairgrounds and racetrack were improved, and the present modern fair plant was erected. Grace Pavilion was named in his honor.
