#29 1906 Earthquake Garden Memorial

  • Rose from Memorial Garden

This Memorial Garden honors the memories of those who died in the Great Earthquake of 1906. Old roses were discovered during the cemetery’s late ‘90s rehabilitation. Planted as part of the funeral decorations when the graves were originally laid out, they have been able to survive to this day. Many of these roses have been propagated on this site; and additional historic roses have been planted. We have approximately 15 different species tended to by volunteers who focus on preserving them for future generations. You will also find irises and pink naked ladies (Belladonna lilies) from old grave decorations.
