#24 Otho Hinton
1802 – March 4, 1865
General Otho Hinton held the rank of Brigadier General in Ohio in the 1840’s. He financially sponsored the organization of the regiment of which he was commander. He was never in battle. He became a fugitive from the law, settling in Santa Rosa in the early 1860’s where he became a major philanthropist. He landscaped Courthouse Square and donated the first firehouse and first horse-drawn fire engine. Hinton Avenue, now on the east side of the Square, was named in his honor.
